Toshiba: F*** the Format War, We’re Going Nuclear (No, Really) [Nuclear]

Who needs to wage a costly format war when you could build nuclear power plants? That’s Toshiba’s thinking exactly. They just launched a brand new company, Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corp. , which will “enhance” its nuclear power business in the US. Um. . . what? [Yahoo!/Reuters].

Toshiba 120GB 1.8-inch HDD

Toshiba has just announced its new 1. 8″ hard drives that come with micro-SATA connectors, ferrying data at 5,400 rpm speeds in both 80GB and 120GB capacities. Known as the 80GB MK8016GSG and 120GB MK1216GSG, these two hard drives meet the stringent SATA 2. 6 specification with a standard micro-SATA connector. They aren’t too shabby when it comes to performance as well, churning out a 489 Mbit/s transfer rate with 15 ms average seek time in tests while sipping relatively low power.

They aren’t too shabby when it comes to performance as well, churning out a 489 Mbit/s transfer rate with 15 ms average seek time in tests while sipping relatively low power. These new hard drives are pretty. . . er, hardy, as they can handle external forces of up to 500G while operating and triple that amount when powered down. There is no word on pricing, but I hope to see these appear in Asus’ future Eee PC line.

Dreamworks Still Tied to HD DVD’s Corpse By Toshiba Contract [Hd Dvd]

Okay, so one big studio actually hasn’t made the jump to Blu yet: Dreamworks, which was paid $100 million to join HD DVD back in August. As we had pieced together in our closed-door analysis, they can’t break rank until Toshiba lets them. Says Dreamworks chief: “It really is in their court at this point to really declare what the next step will be. We’re poised either way to jump.

I just had to write about this: Toshiba 815T PB

What you see is what you get. Apparently, these Toshiba 815T PB phones have come in contact with the Allspark Cube from the Transformers movie and now have bodies of their own. Now all they need are guns and missiles like that one crazy Nokia phone. Apparently, this is all part of promo for a new show called Ketai Sousakan 7. To be honest, I don’t know how anyone could make a show about transforming cell phones, but how can you not, really? Especially ones with faces like those.

So far, there is no set availability date but sometime in April. There is also no set price, and it is predicted that this will only be in Japan. Source Gift Ideas: The Coolest Gadgets Gift Guides. Toshiba’s 815T PB on Softbank threatens humanity

Filed under: Cellphones, such Robots We wish is false - and we are pleased that, on an interim basis, it is not - but we can not help but feel a little freaked at the Toshiba 815T PB of Softbank, produced to coincide with a New show featuring (you guessed it) stolen phones called Ketai Sousakan 7. Yeah yeah, QVGA, 3G, 3. Chamber of 2 megapixels, that everything is fine, but our latent fear of mobile type of brain cancer was only out of the window.

Toshiba Speeds 1.8-Inch Drives Up to 5400rpm [Storage]

The bitch about using 1. 8″ drives in computers is that they run at a sluggy 4200rpm, as opposed to the 5400rpm commonly clocked in 2. 5″ laptop drives. Toshiba today announced a 1. 8″ drive that runs at 5400rpm in capacities of 80GB (MK8016GSG) and 120GB (MK1216GSG). This is good news for near-future UMPCs and refreshes of subnotebooks like the MacBook Air.

Toshiba will showcase its new 1. 8-inch HDDs at the Intel Mobility Summit in Shanghai, China, February 26 - 29, 2008. Toshiba’s new 1. 8-inch HDDs will begin shipping to mobile PC manufacturers and distribution partners in April 2008. Interested developers and design engineers can visit www. toshibastorage. com for more information on Toshiba’s line of industry-leading 1.
