Sony and Samsung may expand LCD partnership

Filed under: HDTV Despite Samsung’s solo expansion plans and Sony’s alliance with Sharp, the two are not only maintaining their current 8th-generation LCD line, but may build another one, and a new plant after that. A source within Samsung told Reuters of the almost-final plans for a second 8G line from S-LCD, and the possibility that Samsung will cut Sony in on its 10th-generation facility, much like the one its already partnering with Sharp on.

Like Sharp, Samsung likely wants to be sure someone will buy all those flat panels once the line is running, and Sony can make sure its got a cheap source to stay competitive on prices when competition will be even higher in 2010. The only thing we can be sure of is it will be nearly impossible to tell who really made that flat panel hanging on your wall, no matter what brand name it says.

Samsung’s 82-inch SyncMaster 820DXn sports a built-in computer

Filed under: Displays, HDTV There’s displays made for digitalsignage, and then there’s Samsung’s SyncMaster 820DXn. Put simply, there’s no commercial screen we’d rather have sitting in our living room, and while we doubt many would go for it, the specs here are pretty impressive. Outside of the expansive 82-inch 1,920 x 1,080 resolution S-PVA panel, you’ll find 178-degree viewing angles, a 5,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, “ultra-high” brightness levels, eight-millisecond response time and the fir.

It also includes built-in fans for extended usage along with an integrated PC consisting of an 1. 8GHz Athlon64 X2 3400+ CPU, 4GB of flash storage, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, an ATI graphics set and Windows XP to boot. Granted, this thing was designed with luring customers in mind, and given the lofty $76,999 price tag, we don’t expect it to do much else.  Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Samsung announces two gamer plasmas for Korea

Filed under: Gaming, HDTV Although Samsung’s billing these plasmas as being “3D ready”, what they mean to say is that they apparently did some tweaking with game mega-developer EA to ensure their two latest 1080p plasmas — in 42 and 50-inch sizes — play games well. The HDMI 1. 3, USB, and supposed 1m:1 contrast ratio don’t exactly hurt, either. [Via Akihabara News] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Samsung P10 Notebook Is Hot

Unfortunately, the word used here is not in a positive way. Samsung P10 is hot - so hot that its battery actually burned a bed and charred the floor a wee bit, but fortunately no lives were lost or injured during the test. Apparently, the P10's battery decided to hold a Guy Fawkes return after being rested on a pillow for three and a half hours.

Samsung To Double Flash SSD Capacity

Samsung hopes on track to double its capacity flash SSD before the year is over, arguing that a version of 128GB will be sending the third quarter while a 256GB version will probably appear soon after. The price will definitely be astronomical, but it bodes well for thin notebooks product-such as Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and MacBook Air. It is likely that the model 256GB used Multi Level Cell (MLC) storage is slower compared with a single-level cell (SLC) of the unit, but has a.

It is likely that the model 256GB used Multi Level Cell (MLC) storage is slower compared with a single-level cell (SLC) of the unit, but it has advantages of stacking multiple data bits per cell to reduce costs overall record. I guess we are going to see more thin notebooks to be released next year (despite offering one of them is another can of worms.
