PlayStation 3 Getting In-Game Voice Chat in Firmware 2.4? [Gaming]

Sony Computer Entertainment UK Boss Ray Maguire let this slip little about a future firmware update, that Sony does not usually comment. Our momentum will continue with the introduction of communication in the game in the summer, the firmware update 2. 4 and the strongest line games through our third-party partners and our own studies. I personally like to thank our business partners and trade to help us at the beginning of the PS3 trip.

4 and the strongest line games through our third-party partners and our own studies. I personally like to thank our business partners and trade to help us at the beginning of the PS3 trip. It will improve in the game chat (perhaps extended to all through a stake in the game Xross Media Bar?) That is even better than the chat we have already used now? Sign us.

PlayStation Eye Tracks Your Face As You Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge [PS3]

Last week at GDC, Sony showed how the standard PlayStation Eye camera connected to a standard PS3 does well at tracking face and body movement, even at some distance. As you can see in the above video starring my good friend Stephen Totilo, it works great, and would be brilliant for duck-and-cover maneuvering in first-person shooters. However, as you might guess, support for games has yet to be announced.

PlayStation 3 PlayTV Recordings Can Be Copied Anywhere [PS3]

For the first time in a long time, we want to grab Sony and kiss them square on the lips. Because PlayTV, the PlayStation 3’s DVR/PVR (that’s not coming to the States yet), will record television to MPEG2 files that can be easily copied off the system to any storage medium you’d like. That’s right, no DRM. But can Sony do such things legally? According to their producer Mark Bunting, it’s fair game:We’ve talked to our legal department about it.

All we’re doing is moving it out of PlayTV and to the cross-media bar as if it was any other recording. So hopefully users won’t do stuff they shouldn’t do with it. . . If I’m prohibited from getting the recording off and storing it somewhere else because some other dude is making money out of selling it, then I’d rather they brought the law in to catch those people.

The controller’s already been available in Japan for months now, which means that if you’re really keen on getting vibration before your buddies, you could import it from Asia and hook it up now. If that’s too much work, $54. 99 will get you one in April.

80GB PlayStation 3 Not Exactly Discontinued, Just Bundled With Metal Gear Solid 4 [Gaming]

The fact that stores everywhere, including Sony’s own SonyStyle, were dropping the 80GB seemed to point to a conclusion that the 80GB was on its way out. Not exactly. As we found out today, the 80GB version is going to be back on June 12, but it’s going to be packed with a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 and a DualShock 3 controller.
