Vista Capable Laptops Sucked So Intel Could Dump Crappy Graphics Chips [Vista]

The judge in the class action lawsuit against Microsoft for the handi-capable Vista stickers without closing a bunch of super-juicy internal e-mails exchanged between Microsoft higher-ups (including Ballmer) in view of suckiness. They were not forget the fact that "Vista capable" machines were horrible, but that is left to slide, according to John exec Kalkman: "To help Intel make its quarterly earnings so that they could continue selling motherboards with 915 embedded graphics.

"One exec Mike Ybarra, actually did stand against this shitty little complacent," We are allowing Intel to drive our experience of the consumer. . . I do not understand why we are in this cave. . . "Obviously their (right) calls were not heeded. Absolutely ridiculous-hosing to fatten clients Intel bottom line. Fanboy Apple or not, one thing that would is shit on its own operating system (part of the vanity, the truth) In order for Intel could dump a pile of chips aging.

Self-Destructing Laptop Aims to Protect Confidential Data

Having a laptop stolen can expose vital information that can be used and manipulated by thieves. Despite recent high-profile cases of stolen laptops, people continue to lose them, either as a result of theft or negligence by the owner. While passwords are installed in operating systems, networks and other important applications, they can be hacked by the more determined thieves.

Encryption has been the main way to combat the theft of data so far, a new system of protection for portable uses slightly different methods, however. (More…) If you are reading this material in your news aggregator, the site you are looking at is guilty of copyright infringement.

MSI intros “anion” laptop, power saving Turbo Battery Technology

Filed under: LaptopsIt looks like MSI has some big plans for CeBIT, if the company’s latest news is any indication. The computer-maker is gearing up for two innovative new laptops, both of which are part of its ECOlution “green” line of systems. The first model will bizarrely feature a high concentration of anions — negatively charged ions which the company believes will “enhance the body’s condition, promote nervous stability and recovery from fatigue, and encourage circulation of halted blood.

” The second, less magical entry from MSI comes in the form of the GX600-08 laptop, which utilizes a new battery design intended to extend life up to 20% by engaging a “Turbo Battery Mode” which automatically adjusts the system’s workload to conserve power. We’ll undoubtedly be hearing more about these from CeBIT, so keep your eyes peeled. [Via Fareastgizmos] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Linpus rolls out Linux-based OS aimed at low-cost laptops / UMPCs

Filed under: LaptopsWhile its claim of being the “first” to offer an OS specifically designed for the latest crop of low-cost laptops and UMPCs may be a little dubious, the unfortunately-named Linpus is at least pretty quick to jump on the bandwagon. To that end, the company’s just let loose its Linpus Linux Lite OS, which it says will run just fine on laptops like the Eee PC and Cloudbook, or any other system with as little as a 500MHz CPU, 128MB of RAM and 512MB of storage.

Just as importantly, the OS is also apparently designed with low-res 7-inch screens in mind, although as CLUMPC points out, it doesn’t go so far as to include support for little things like built-in WiFi out of the box. Still, if you want to give it a shot, you can grab it now in the form of a Live CD direct from Linpus.  Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Acer set to launch Blu-ray-equipped 16-, 18.4-inch laptops

Filed under: LaptopsAcer certainly isn’t starved for laptop offerings these days, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping it from expanding its arsenal even further, with the company now reportedly set to release a pair of new models boasting Blu-ray drives and some high res screens to match. While it’s apparently still not entirely official, DigiTimes reports that the laptops will consist of a 16-inch and an 18.

Unfortunately, there’s no other details on the laptops (which won’t necessarily look like the one at the right, though the standard Gemstone design would seem to be a pretty safe bet), but they’ll apparently ring up at between $1,900 and $2,240 when they land sometime in the second quarter of this year. VAIO Graphic Splash Expression Collection verbosely lets you style your Sony laptop

Filed under: Laptops While no product should ever have a five word name, the 1,200-piece limited edition VAIO Graphic Splash Expression Collection throws branding 101 to the wind and, like a few other lines before it, pairs Core 2 Duo-based Vaio FZ laptops with three patterns (Victorian lace, flora, and leaf) and three colors (pink, blue, and black).

Samsung P10 Notebook Is Hot

Unfortunately, the word used here is not in a positive way. Samsung P10 is hot - so hot that its battery actually burned a bed and charred the floor a wee bit, but fortunately no lives were lost or injured during the test. Apparently, the P10's battery decided to hold a Guy Fawkes return after being rested on a pillow for three and a half hours.

How Hot Is Your Laptop? [Question Of The Day]

Hookay. So I went to talk to Jason about the purchase of a new MacBook Air to replace ageing my PowerBook 17 ". He suggested a new MacBook Pro, or even a MacBook. "I love the air. It's hot, "he said." You want hot, burning his groin MacBook Pro balls, "he replied. So I told him: "I really that hot? "And then we thought we should ask: Dear reader, how hot is your PC or Mac laptop? Please write in the comments of its make, model and the actual temperature (Celsius or Fahrenheit) on the button.

So I told him: "I really that hot?" And then we thought we should ask: Dear reader, how hot your PC or Mac laptop? Please write in the comments of its make, model and the actual temperature (Celsius or Fahrenheit) on the bottom surface, where the laptop touches his body while using it in bed, chair or potty. We use their answers to compile a chart to show how dangerous each notebook is for tendering parties.
