Microsoft TechFest 2008 Opens with the WorldWide Telescope Demo

I am going to Microsoft TechFest 2008 from Microsoft where research laboratories around the world display their best works (36 demos). At the opening dinner, we had a demonstration of the impressive World telescope, which was submitted on February 27 at the TED conference (see the video). Curtis Wong, principal researcher of Microsoft's Next Media Research group presented the project.

The site allows them to create their tour of the world of a video recording of your browsing experience with your personal comments. We saw a tour conducted by a child of 6 years old. And of course (we are in the social web era!), Users can share with others. Socialization in the universe, wow! The website will be available for spring: www. Worldwidetelescope.

Microsoft announces price drop for Vista

Windows Vista has been for more than a year, yet many people are still reluctant to upgrade, and frankly, not my fault. I have a machine that runs Vista, and that's only because it was installed on my laptop. For many reasons, I am prepared to not only upgrade the other half-dozen machines in my house, one of which is that I do not want all of the mass shell extra when XP is doing well.

Still I am not sure that already collect until, even with the new lower price. XP is doing well, and if it is not broken, do not fix it. Microsoft Slashes Vista Prices

Microsoft has decided to cut the price of its Ultimate and Premium editions of Windows Vista so that they will be able to move more copies. This comes after Vista Service Pack 1 failed to see folks rush to computer stores for an upgrade, sticking to the good old Windows XP at this point in time. Microsoft hopes that such a price cut will be able to stimulate sluggish sales figures.

Microsoft Firefly: Hungry Hungry Hippos for Surface

Filed under: Displays, Gaming Oh boy, if ever there was a worthy use case for a giant $10k multi-touch table, it’s a serene port of Hungry Hungry Hippos called Firefly, which Microsoft developed as a proof of concept for Surface. Just gather them into your jar. Go on, gather ‘em up, those 100,000 fireflies aren’t going to gather themselves. Video after the break.

Microsoft lowered Vista requirements to help Intel sell incompatible chipsets

While bits and pieces have been blacked out, what remains is still fairly incredible — although Intel’s 915 chipset was initially rejected as incompatible with Vista, MS.

After seeing him in action, I agree: We will have to wait until it is released to see how it works in a humble PC, but I can not wait for my turn to three meters across the projection screen on the bridge of the Enterprise .

Microsoft’s First Surface Game Will Thrill Out-of-Work Entomologists [Microsoft]

The first game of Microsoft's Surface table has been demonstrated in a unique look for SarcasticGamer. Com, and all I can say is, which combines the spine-tingling excitement of a mobile phone-puzzle game with the spine-achiness that comes from hunching over the screen to play. The game is called Firefly, but the good ship Serenity is nowhere in sight.

Instead, grasp as fireflies flit around the screen, pulling them into his glass jar. The graphics are beautiful, and the interface is very organic, so we have no doubt the area will eventually lead to some sweet game. But this seems to be on "anyone can play" theme a little too far, the nursery-school "anyone can win." As of Doc SarcasticGamer said, "Anybody can herd fireflies.

Microsoft slammed by European Commission with $1.35b fine

Filed under: Desktops, Laptops var digg_url = ‘http://digg. com/microsoft/Microsoft_slammed_by_European_Commission_with_1_4b_fine’; It’s a good thing Microsoft has tons and tons of money, because they keep finding themselves in a position where they’ve got to pay out — big time. Such is the case today, where the European Commission has fined the monolithic company €899 million (or $1.

“Microsoft was the first company in 50 years of EU competition policy that the Commission has had to fine for failure to comply with an antitrust decision,” said Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes. Perhaps Ballmer and co. saw this one coming when they went “open” last week, though we’re fairly confident this kind of fine carries only the slightest sting for the software giant.
