Apple MacBook Pro (with Penryn and multi-touch) unboxing

Filed under: Features, Laptops We just got our 2. 5GHz Penryn / 4GB fourth-gen MacBook Pro. Plenty of power under that hood, but the outward differences are few: it’s got the new, reorganized F-key layout (which we’re not all that fond of), and the trackpad physically the same (with the addition of multi-touch, which works just as well as it did on the MacBook Air).

We’ll have some updated benchmarks shortly. P. S. -It includes the same model 60Wh battery they’ve been selling on these for a while, for those puzzled about the battery life changes made to the Apple’s MBP spec page. Apple MacBook Pro Penryn tests: a little more speed, a lot less heat

Filed under: Features, Laptopsdigg_url = ‘http://digg. com/apple/MacBook_Pro_Penryn_tests_little_more_speed_a_lot_less_heat’; Sure, more speed is great, but on OS X most bumps don’t have an appreciable effect on everyday work (unless all you’re doing is video encoding). We were more interested in what Intel’s Penryn processors can do for the MBP’s heat envelope, so we maxed out both CPU cores in this brand new machine at let ‘em crank for a half an hour.

MacBook Air patent is mocking you

Filed under: Laptops It’s no secret where this little bit of patented know-how ended up. Apple’s little port door for the MacBook Air is one of those design elements of legend that could one day go down next to MagSafe and the Click Wheel in the annals of Apple history — even if it’s near impossible to use without picking up the computer. So it’s a little ironic that even the dreamer that drew up this patent couldn’t imagine a mac without FireWire, Ethernet and a pair of USB ports.

New Macbook Pro Review (Verdict: Penryn + LEDs = Efficiency) [Apple]

The new Macbook Pro is not much of a bump in comparison with its predecessors, but it is a step in the right direction. The addition of Multi-Touch is a great novelty, even in a touchpad that the smaller than that of the Air. However, the power of the processor in this Penryn GPA is more or less the same speed as the last generation of chips, a GHz GHz, and there is no good reason for updating the machines that are less than a year age.

As with the scores AirBook, its mileage definitely vary. The low. But in relation to the older books are more miserable. General Conclusion MacBook Pro this update is nothing surprising. The Multi-Touch touchpad and processor upgrades are welcome Penryn, but not necessarily something that an earlier generation MacBook Pro user feel the urgency of updating a.

New MacBook Pros get dissected, look like old MacBook Pros

Filed under: Laptops We’d love to tell you that during AnandTech’s dissection of the “new” MacBook Pros they made a shocking discovery about the internals of the systems that brought into light significant changes and / or upgrades to the computers. We’d like nothing more then to say that it appears Apple has completely reworked the architecture of these machines to be harder, better, faster, and stronger.

We’d like nothing more then to say that it appears Apple has completely reworked the architecture of these machines to be harder, better, faster, and stronger. But honestly? They’re exactly the same as the old models, save for those little Penryns, and as a result, kind of boring. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the photos — you’ll see.  Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro get refreshed with faster CPUs, multi-touch

Filed under: Laptopsdigg_url = 'http://digg. Es / apple / MacBook_and_MacBook_Pro_Lines_Refreshed '; Aw easy. Finally, it really happened. . . Of the species. Apple recently launched an update on its unpleasant MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, damaging the processor speeds, and giving the Pros that tasty multi-tap MacBook Air has been sports. Even so, they can not break a little new form-factor for us? Both lines are sporting new Intel chips fell Penryn, you should do your lap and / o.

SKU complete summary after the break. Update: Just to be absolutely clear, Apple confirmed to us that processors Penryn are, in fact, as noted above. Poll: How about them MacBook updates?

Filed under: Features, Notebooks all knew this day was coming. Apple MacBook Pro previous revision was undoubtedly getting long in the tooth, a MacBook specification bump never hurt anything, and hey, Penryn is not getting any younger. Still, it's pretty obvious that some of the Apple faithful feel MacBook Pro and its cute little sidekick MacBooks are in some serious need of a refresher form factor, and perhaps a bit of SSD.

We can understand that Apple does not want to steal the thunder MacBook Air, and to be fair most of the major manufacturers put the new chips within the current Penryn form factors, but that does not mean that it was wrong for you to be upset. So, how do you feel? See Survey permanent | Mail | Comments.
