Confirmed: Sprint Mogul Gets Rev. A and GPS-Enabling ROM Update [Sprint]

Sprint Mogul updating the ROM will be available for direct download today, confirming the rumour yesterday. As expected, the update includes EV-DO Rev. A GPS capabilities, and other adjustments and corrections. Laptop Magazine found faster downloads of music and the website, as well as a boost upload speed of 105 Kbps in its test of the upgrade. In other news, iPhone has yet EDGE.

Sprint Mogul ROM Update to Bring GPS, Rev. A Functionality? [Rumor]

According WMExperts, Sprint Mogul is to obtain an updated ROM that allows GPS and EVDO Rev A functionality. The update is expected to land on Monday (03/10/08), and that supposedly fix some issues Bluetooth users have been experiencing, too. We will keep you informed about any further developments. “Dreambook” Cludbook Mod Adds Touchscreen, GPS, More Ports [Mods]

Cloudbook modder, Azazel has done some extraordinary work to the Everex Cloudbook. His mod, called Dreambook, adds in a touchscreen display, internal 4-port USB hub, GPS unit and 4GB’s of flash memory. The webcam had to get the axe to fit all the new features under the hood, but we think it is a good trade off. Acorrding to Azazel, “There is a lot of room to work with,” and in that case, we demand the webcam back.

Medion E3212 Low-Cost GPS

Europeans will be glad to learn that Medion has announced its Medion E3212, a GPS that costs about 120 Euros (wouldn’t that be cheap if the dollar was not in the toilets?). It is loaded with GoPal 4. 0, the software from the same company. It has a 3. 5” display and is one of the cheapest GPS that has real-time traffic updates. iPhone to Get GPS Add-on, Courtesy of Nav N Go’s iGO MyWay 8 [IPhone]

At CeBIT this week, Nav N Go has been showing off its ghetto-looking iGO MyWay 8 for an “upcoming yet-to-be-announced iPhone GPS receiver. ” There’s no more information beyond that, except that the software looks quite boring and doesn’t seem to fully exploit the capabilities of multitouch. Garmin Upgrades Budget nuvi 200 Series With Four New Models [GPS]

Garmin has announced a few upgrades to its popular line of entry-level nuvi 200 GPS devices in the form of the nuvi 255 / 255W and the 205 / 205W. Fans of the series can expect improved mapping and routing features, faster satellite acquisition, navigation by photos, FM traffic updates and content from MSN Direct. The 255 units will also include street level voice prompts while the the less expensive 205 units will offer mapping choices such as the contiguous United States, Canada or regional se.

N-Gage to Incorporate GPS and Cellphone Camera Into Games? [Cellphones]

According NokNok a meeting with Will Shen, N-Gage's head of production in North America, revealed that Nokia intends to use GPS and mobile camera as a useful feature in games. In fact, Shen noted that all the functionality of a phone may possess could be used to make a game more interactive. For example, the user can ask to take pictures that would be analysed by the relevant game using "smart techniques," then "feed" the images to a character in the game.

Shen also noted that GPS functionality could be used for location-based games, but stressed that they want to make sure that it does not extend the line between innovation of tricks. Obviously, we will have to wait and see if we can remove any of this take-off, but at least Nokia fans should be very excited about the potential that the new N-Gage platform brings to the table.
