Gamer’s tale takes Xbox repair woes to new levels of sadness

Filed under: GamingThere certainly been no shortage of Xboxes sad stories, but when it comes to attempts to obtain the repair console, the latter story of a player known only as Nathaniel might have to take the cake. As can be seen, its console (one of the first to reach the market) boasted a good deal of customization, including signatures of people from Bungie and Team Xbox 360, and an illustration by spiffy Rooster Teeth Comics artist Luke McKay.

No word as to what Nathaniel plans to do next (not mourn), but given that Microsoft gave the Royal treatment to someone who did nothing more than get a tattoo Zune, you might imagine that at least the guy a few free points or something. Read | Permalink | Mail | Comments.

Wii FreeLoader gives you region-free gaming without the mods

Filed under: Gamingdigg_url = ‘http://digg. com/nintendo/Wii_FreeLoader_gives_you_region_free_gaming_without_the_mods’; This one has been in the works for a while, but it looks like you can finally pick up your very own region-free enabler for the Wii for $19. 99. Wii FreeLoader allows you to play any GameCube or Wii game from any region on your Wii. You just stick the FreeLoader disc into the console, let it spin up, eject the disc and stick in your title of choice — like Super Smash Bros.

Brawl, for instance, or some cooking-related title. Since there’s no hardware modding required, this one theoretically won’t void your warranty, but who’s to say how Nintendo will treat you if you somehow break your Wii with it, and there’s always the fear that Nintendo will hit your Wii with a mandatory software update that breaks FreeLoader, so proceed with caution.

Microsoft’s First Surface Game Will Thrill Out-of-Work Entomologists [Microsoft]

The first game of Microsoft's Surface table has been demonstrated in a unique look for SarcasticGamer. Com, and all I can say is, which combines the spine-tingling excitement of a mobile phone-puzzle game with the spine-achiness that comes from hunching over the screen to play. The game is called Firefly, but the good ship Serenity is nowhere in sight.

Instead, grasp as fireflies flit around the screen, pulling them into his glass jar. The graphics are beautiful, and the interface is very organic, so we have no doubt the area will eventually lead to some sweet game. But this seems to be on "anyone can play" theme a little too far, the nursery-school "anyone can win." As of Doc SarcasticGamer said, "Anybody can herd fireflies.

Samsung announces two gamer plasmas for Korea

Filed under: Gaming, HDTV Although Samsung’s billing these plasmas as being “3D ready”, what they mean to say is that they apparently did some tweaking with game mega-developer EA to ensure their two latest 1080p plasmas — in 42 and 50-inch sizes — play games well. The HDMI 1. 3, USB, and supposed 1m:1 contrast ratio don’t exactly hurt, either. [Via Akihabara News] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Dream Authentics Tabletop Arcade Game

Man, didn’t you just love the eighties? They used to have these places called “arcades”, where you could play all varieties of video games standing up that had a wide diversity of controllers ranging from track-balls, spinners, and the good old joystick with buttons. The Dream Authentics Tabletop Arcade Game recaptures the spirit of that unfortunately bygone era, without the whole standing up part.

Too bad the Dream Authentics Tabletop Arcade Game costs about $2,495. 95. Dang, that’s like 9,984 quarters. Nintendo wants your money for online “Pay & Play” gaming?

Filed under: Nintendo game could not have been more blunt in his announcement last week at GDC, but from the aspect that it will not be entirely free to enjoy Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection play forever. Nintendo is upgrading a new service Pay & Play for certain games, which seems to refer to both downloadable content for some titles, and online multiplayer for others.

Aside from that Nintendo does not extend much - we have no idea what titles will cost money to play, and how much they will be - but given the fact that Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart are just about to make the game online at the Wii really interesting, this is not exactly an encouraging sign. [Register Via Hardware] Read | Permalink | Mail | Comments.
