Portable applications - launching apps from USB flash memory

Well, it's taken me a while to begin by looking at this (now old) phenomenon of portable applications. What are they? Simply applications that are launched from a USB memory device so that it can run on almost any computer without leaving any personal data or information from the program in the host computer. This really is a great innovation.

This really is a great innovation. I do not know what took me so long, but only began to use these programs and are very useful. The image above is PortableApps. Com they have created a set of applications that run from a USB memory. Best of all applications are free. .

Canon HV20

First I have to go through a bit of background before starting this review! Upgrading to a video camera high definition has been an interesting process. It seems that while Sony and Panasonic, have been working on their codec compression AVCHD not have an intense focus on amateur video editor. This compression is, by all reports, very difficult editing programs like Adobe Premiere Pro or elements and difficult to edit in other programs.

This compression is, by all reports, very difficult editing programs like Adobe Premiere Pro or elements and difficult to edit in other programs. It seems that is not really designed for editing and AVCHD is rather an appropriate format for the moment, filming and recording on DVD crowd. As apparently the only HD compression format that is readily available for use with flash memory or other tape formats are not left me looking for a camera that is able to use DV tapes.

Canon HV20 HDV Camcorders For YouTubersCanon HV20 HDV Camcorders For YouTubers
Dear Mister Canon, a bunch of us here on YouTube are already shooting on your marvellous new Canon HV20 HDV camcorder and (as Maxwell Smart would say) “Loving It”. We have an idea for an on-going series that will show people how to use the Canon HV20 HDV camcorder and how to compress and upload to YouTube. Here’s a chance for you to sell more HV20s and to show the world what a bunch of nice guys you are. Call me…we’ll do lunch…all we want is a lousy couple of cameras and some ongoing support - and just think of the benefits to you.

If you Google “CanonHV20″ you’ll see we pretty-well own the first two pages - even bumping www.canonhv20.com off the top spot. So that’s part of the strategy - we’re hoping Canon will notice these videos and come to the party.

If you want to score a new Canon HV20 HDV camcorder - start uploading some funny and/or creative footage as a video response. ‘Cause if (or when) this thing works we’re going to need a bunch of people to make this series.

Are we out of our collective minds? Quite possibly…but if you don’t try…

We actually do have the concept nutted out and we’ve written the scripts for the first series. Now all we need is a few more High Definition Cameras (this is where you come in Mister CANON).

This footage was shot on CanonHV20, edited on iMovie on the Mac. Speeded up (obviously) and compressed on Quicktime’s brilliant H264 (which YouTube are using for the iPhone). 2:20 minutes compressed down to 57.3MB from the original 8.77Gb. Using multi-pass “Best”, 30 fps and a custom size of 480×270 (16:9 aspect ratio).

à bientôt, Malkie, Paris (aka “Wallyworld” at YouTube)

Canon HV20 HD Camcorder - PMA 2007 InterviewCanon HV20 HD Camcorder - PMA 2007 Interview
The Canon HV20 HDV Camcorder brings the power of professional level HD recording to the consumer at a price that won’t break the bank. The HV20 captures images in genuine HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, so you are shooting in real HDTV, all on a mini HDV tape. One of the biggest features this camera brings to the consumer camcorder market is the ability to capture in 24p, the same frame rate used in movie film.

Canon improves upon the standard CCD camcorders by using a 1/2.7″ CMOS sensor to generate images. The 2.96MP CMOS sensor tends to process faster than a CCD for richer color and sharper detail. When you add a Canon Optics HD lens, 10x optical zoom and a DV II processor you get ultra-sharp color and incredible detail even from a distance. In order to ensure you get the highest possible video quality and picture Canon added an HDMI output and hot shoe terminal to the HV20.

As impressive as the HV20 is as a camcorder, it gets even better as a 3.1 megapixel digital still camera. Store images on tiny HC Mini-SD memory cards with the Mini-SD card slot. The optical image stabilizer and advanced AF auto focus make it easy to get crisp clean video and photos. Choosing and using the enhanced features such as Smooth Zoom Zebra Pattern and Level Shot Control, are easy thanks to the 2.7″ LCD screen.

Canon fit everything you can ask from a camcorder in the HV20, all in a body that fits comfortably in your pocket. Now if they could only develop a “remove 10 pounds feature”…

Researchers Have Developed a Working Laugh-o-Meter [Funny]

Researchers at the University of Kansai in Japan have developed a machine that has the ability to scientifically measure the amount of a person laugh, as well as sincerity. The device operates through a series of electrode sensors that monitor the amount of bioelectricity generated by various muscles involved in the laughter. The information is then whisked away to a computer that analyzes assigned a numerical score based on the quantity.

Moreover, the difference between real and fake laughter is determined by monitoring the movement of the diaphragm. If the muscle vibrations are high, that would be an indicator of genuine laughter. Interestingly, researchers are looking to make a portable version of health and entertainment devices-which means that the performance of Carrot Top days are numbered.
