As we had pieced together in our closed-door analysis, they can’t break rank until Toshiba lets them. Both feature BD-Live (and thus Ethernet) and USB (for external) storage, while the S550 has PiP (BonusView) and 1GB of onboard storage. As for the rest of the specs, well, expect TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, dts-HD (and dts-HD Master in the S550), AVCHD and xvYCC color support, and, of course 1080 60/24p. It seems that the Xbox 360 HD DVD is experiencing a den of quail that predicted yesterday - Retailers like Best Buy are taking for only $ 49. 99 - is that the price low enough for the curious onlookers to pick it up? After all, think of it as a DVD player that features playback of HD DVD. Own a piece of history (suspended), today. I wonder how people who paid 199 dollars for that feel now. |

Not surprisingly, Amazon is looking to dump a lot of HD DVD titles to clear more space for Blu-ray. Rather than dump the whole lot in the desert, are moving savings to you in the form of a 50% discount on most titles. Get em 'before they disappear forever. [AmazonThanks Devon!]. |

It seems that there is no going back for the HD DVD as the death knell has already begun at the age of firesales - firstly, for HD DVD players at the store electronics stores throughout Japan and the USA , and now we have Microsoft doing its bit to stop the spread of the HD DVD by the closure of its manufacturing sector of the ill fate Xbox 360 HD DVD peripheral. Talk about kicking a man when he is down - Microsoft has decided to stop production of its Xbox 360 HD DVD peripheral drive what could be the final nail in the coffin HD DVD. Good thing the big M did not decide its full weight behind the inclusion of Toshiba HD DVD as a drive within the Xbox 360 in the first place, eh? Well, at least, you can buy an Xbox 360 HD DVD to the floor now - watch out for the firesales to be announced after this movement. For those who have already picked up the HD DVD and not bother - Microsoft will continue to be the guarantee of his honor, but I wonder how much we are going to see action now ignored by the unit.
