Sony’s PS3 headtracking system does it all with a camera

Filed under: Gaming We were already blown away by Johnny Lee’s headtracking demo using a Wiimote, but it looks like Sony’s trying to take it mainstream in a much slicker way. The company was demoing a PS3-based headtracking system at GDC that doesn’t require any special IR glasses to function — it just uses a bone-stock Playstation Eye camera to track your ugly mug around the room.

Sony says it’s not announcing the system for any games yet, but we can’t imagine devs aren’t clamoring for this to get official — this would be amazing for all sorts of genres. Video after the break. A Camera That Lets You Record What Is Happening While You Drive

A lot of us have been in a car one time or another wishing we had a video camera to record something we had witnessed or even been involved in. As a result, we are left in despair because we have no material proof of the incident. Now things might be different. This rear view recorder with a 2. 5in LCD screen records what the driver might see ahead and also behind.

Sony H50 and W300 camera hands-ons

Filed under: Digital Cameras Curiously, it turns out that the photos that roam around the DSC-W300 really do not do the packing thin-megapixel point-and-shoot justice. That actually seems pretty good finish in real life, but the lens protrusion was a little disconcerting. And, of course, the DSC-H50 is a strong, solid bugger sense, not very different from what you expect from the M-series.

Sony intros the Cyber-Shot DSC-H50 “super zoom” camera

Filed under: Digital Cameras Sony is no stranger to digital cameras, as the company has professed in its press release detailing the Cyber-Shot DSC-H50, a new 9. 1-megapixel shooter that should have camera fans perking up their ears. The new model — a successor to the DSC-H9 “super zoom” camera — sports a Carl Zeiss 15x optical zoom lens, a 3-inch tilting LCD display, ISO to 3200, and a long-distance flash (capable of lighting subjects from 55 feet away).

The DSC-H50 also has an “advanced sports” shooting mode which allows it to utilize ultra-high shutter speeds (like 1/4000 of a second). The camera is expected to go on sale in May, and will only slightly break the bank at $400.  Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments.

Vampire Traffic Cameras Detect Blood, Control Carpool Lanes [CCTV]

Those nutty British, obsessed with their cameras closed circuit television, hot water and dirty blood pudding, have decided to mix all in a single gadget: leaf camera that can detect water in the blood and the bodies inside the car through an infrared beam. The system will be able to detect the misuse of carpool lanes, fines in the case that they were trying to mislead the police with Marge, his special "inflatable friend.

The system will be able to detect the misuse of carpool lanes, fines in the case that they were trying to mislead the police with Marge, his special "inflatable friend." Definitely, I am not moving. My question now is, what happens if you are a zombie driving? OK. I suppose zombies do not do the pool thing (see what I did there? See? OK. Does not matter. Me put my coat.

New camera tech can detect blood and water content in your car. Ew.

Filed under: Digital Cameras, Transportation time in the lookout for the next step in Big Brother up in politics, there is a new camera technology being developed at Loughborough University in the UK who can count the occupants of cars and calculate the amount of water content and there is blood inside the car. The application is obvious to those who cut down the carpool lane offenders, trying to tighten the law with a mannequin or a pet in the passenger seat.

The application is obvious to those who cut down the carpool lane offenders, trying to tighten the law with a mannequin or a pet in the passenger seat. Look, the protection of privacy aside, there is something strange about traffic tracking cams amounts of blood and water inside the switch cars. Do we really want to let the machines have this kind of (literally) information about us? [Thanks, Richard W] Read | Permalink | Mail | Comments.

DIY IR headgear repels security cameras, attracts “security”

Filed under: Misc. GadgetsIt is not the first method we have seen for the blinding security cameras, but this new DIY / art project for the people of Oberwelt e. V. Looks to be one of the simplest and one of the few that could be used on a daily basis. The so-called I-R. ASC ( "infra-redlight against surveillance camera"), the device apparently is simply a series of infrared lights connected to a battery, which combine to stain his face with a glow slightly nervous.

Needless to say, although it appears that quite effectively conceal his identity, not exactly scream subtlety, so I get some excuses to explain his plan, if in fact this thing in trying to public. [Via More Extras] Read | Permalink | Mail | Comments.

Clock Radio Camera

I’d be more wary these days whenever I enter hotel rooms and the ilk, since you never know what kind of spy camera has been installed in there. The Clock Radio Camera is yet another home device that looks innocent enough, hiding a devilish function deep within its bowels. This home appliance comes with all the relevant LED indicators complete with a discreetly located video jack behind the unit.

It is capable of capturing 320 x 240 resolution video in MPEG4 format at 30 fps - perfect for capturing all those trysts that your maid has been performing while you were out of the home despite pleading innocence. The Clock Radio Camera retails for $500, and you can cough up another Benjamin if you want those snippets stored in full color. I’d better learn how to make one of these soonest possible I guess.

This is our second film. Obviously we had learnt from our mistakes but had not got camera upgrades yet and there were some mistakes. This is the most delayed of the films because we had SERIOUS editing problems that pushed us back about 12 months. We were slightly older, wiser and had more experience by then. This movie was filmed between February 2005 and May 2005.

This movie is based around an Arsonist setting ablaze a house, but with different things happening in different peoples lives at the same time, just as Pyrotechnic Idiots was based around a road accident. These other events include:

Landrover 4×4ing in Africa
Hummer off-roading
Numerous crashes and fire
All pyrotechnics, crashes and smoke effects are performed by us.

Richard Anderson and Lou Inzeo. 2006Richard Anderson and Lou Inzeo. 2006
Chiller Theatre Expo. 2006.

Richard Anderson appeared in high school plays, served a hitch in the Army and, upon his discharge, began doing summer stock, radio work, a movie bit part (a wounded soldier in Twelve O’Clock High (1949)) and all the other minor jobs required of your basic struggling actor. He did comedy scenes on a “screen test”-like TV series called “Lights, Camera, Action!” (1950) and impressed the right people at MGM, who offered him a contract. After leaving MGM he continued to dabble in movies while at the same time becoming a huge presence on TV. He was a regular (Police Lt. Drum) during the last season of TV’s “Perry Mason” (1957); in the series’ last episode, he interrogates witnesses to a murder in a TV studio–the witnesses being played by the “Perry Mason” crew. In the high-rated last episode of “The Fugitive” (1963) he plays Richard Kimble’s (David Janssen) brother-in-law, and is briefly suspected of being the real killer of Kimble’s wife. A regular on “The Six Million Dollar Man” (1974), Anderson has more recently produced the TV-movie reprises of that series.
