Apple to Allow VoIP Over Wi-Fi [Cellphones]

If someone develops a VoIP program for the iPhone, Apple will only prevent it from making calls over a cell network to protect poor little AT&T. If you’re in a Wi-Fi hotspot, however, go nuts. This opens up a pretty big door for developers to make some sweet programs that’ll save you quite a few cell minutes. Basically, it’ll allow all iPhone users to have what T Mobile offers with its @Home program but without the monthly fee, at least as soon as someone writes the program.

iPhone SDK Rumor Checklist [Apple]

Now that we’ve heard what’s up, we can see which iPhone SDK rumors came true. As it happens, the insiders were pretty damn close to dead-on—Hulk doesn’t have to do a lot of smashing today. Let’s review:• Beta only with final coming at WWDC? True - Today’s SDK announcement was beta, and though it’s available today to anyone who wants to try it out.

Fingers crossed for the future!• iTunes as application hub/Apple as app picker? Yes, sorta - There’s an iTunesy App Store which can be used both over-the-air on the iPhone (or iPod touch) itself, or sideloaded via a Mac or presumably a PC, via iTunes. • Unfettered freeware? No - Here’s one for the smashing block: Free software will be available, but only through the App Store, where programs will be edited for content.

Steve Jobs Craps on Adobe Mobile Flash, Does Not Bode Well for iPhone Support [Apple]

Everyone agrees that the mobile Safari iPhone is almost the best way to surf the Web on a mobile phone to save a point: no support Flash. This little annoying hangup prevents virtually all workplaces video, except for a small selection of videos from YouTube, and seriously undermines the functionality of sites that use Flash sharply. You would think that adding Flash support would be at the top of Apple in the list of things to do, but what has been saying Jobso do not think we should celebrate ou.

It is rather disappointing, especially with the SDK news because of the fall tomorrow assumed that many would support Flash along the same. There is certainly a possibility that still surprises us and receive, but it seems that employment rather wait for us to throw its weight around Adobe and forcing develop a new version of Flash only for his oh-so special - Phone .

Cops Shut Down Meizu’s CeBIT Booth for Ripping Off Apple [Bad Business]

It seems that we were not the only ones not impressed with the Meizu M8 iPhone ripoff their booths at CeBIT was closed by the local police and all products and promotional materials were removed. Who should take the test! Apparently some other booths were closed as well, since that was part of a broader initiative to protect the owners of patents and copyrights. What does this mean for the fate of our favorite junk imitation Chinese ripoff phone? Time will tell.

What does this mean for the fate of our favorite junk imitation Chinese ripoff phone? Time will tell. Stay strong, my friends. UPDATE: The closure was due to an erroneous MP3 issue of licences and the stand is now open again.

Nike, Apple Head For Gyms

Nike and Apple have upped the ante by introducing the Nike + iPod experience in gyms worldwide this coming summer - both companies are currently co-operating with major gym equipment manufacturers like Life Fitness, Precor, Star Trac, and Technogym in order to introduce Nike + iPod compatibility with their cardio exercise equipment. This means users can hook up their iPods directly to the equipment at the start of the workout in order to record their progress.
