IBM’s z10 mainframe to take on the upstart PC

Gadgets Shocking as it may seem, the mainframe computer has never really gone away - even in this era of PS3 based modular supercomputers, financial institutions, retailers, and other large companies still buy the big iron, which means that IBM still makes. The company most recently, the size of the refrigeration plant-z10, it keeps track of the millions of dollars System z9 released three years ago with faster, cooler processors, the design more energy efficient, 70 percent more computing capacity - y. Hilariously, the z10 caused a bit of a mainframe Osbourne effect: the holding of clients eager z9 discount on purchases in anticipation of the z10 resulted in a fall of 15 per cent in revenue from IBM mainframe last quarter.
