Paddle-Wheel Propeller Designs Take Flight, 115 Years Late [Cyclogyro Propeller]
|
Researchers from Singapore have demoed platform that uses a model-odd paddle wheels as the propeller design was patented in 1893. The cyclogyro the flat-whirling propeller blades resemble the comic contraptions built in the years before and after the flights of the Wright brothers, but could be more efficient and quieter than those currently used in aircraft. Although a century ago and patented by a German inventor who were unworkable until modern materials and technology can combine light weight and high strength in the blades and arms control. Even now, the materials and the limits of efficiency means it is unlikely to ever be strong enough to carry passengers, but ultra-manoeuverable UAVs could be an application. |
